I want to tell you something about how I do my fiction coaching work because I think you deserve to know.
Every story I support an author to write and finish is done without the use of generative AI.
When you trust me with your story, it's me who is sitting behind the computer, tapping on the keyboard providing coaching comments and feedback on what works and what needs more attention to help you achieve your writing goal.
My coaching skills have been honed by years of study and practice, and meeting coaching standards through mentorship and rigorous assessment. The feedback I provide on your story comes from years of studying fiction writing with real writers, editors and teachers, and it's 100% human and will stay that way.
In 2017, I was working on one of my own manuscripts and I had the experience of muddling my way through the messy middle, and the frustration of receiving well-meaning but poorly delivered conflicting feedback that was supposed to help me fix all the structural and character issues in the story.
It was an intense time for me and I almost quit writing forever.
But I love story and even though I was confused, I knew I needed the kind of support I now offer to other writers. I learned fiction coaching and became obsessed with understanding how to simplify and implement writing craft in a way that doesn't harm a writer's creative process, but helps bring it out!
My love of writing, coaching and supporting other authors. I value honesty and the human approach to creative expression.
That's why the one thing I will NEVER do to your story is use generative AI in my fiction writing or coaching services.
I care about you, your story and your intellectual property. I want YOU to grow into your most creative self, write satisfying stories, draw on your own live experience, and stretch your imagination as you write.
And, I refuse to use generative AI tools to speed up the feedback process.
When you work with me, your story gets my full human attention.
It's my eyeballs on your work. I'm the one sitting behind the computer responding to what is and isn't on the page, leaving encouraging comments, adding questions to help you develop the story further and I'm the one using track changes to show inline developmental edits. No generative AI!
I also want to be transparent about something else.
I’ll never tell you that your story is great when it needs more work, but when I give this feedback, I'll be kind delivering it because I know how much goes into creating a story and feedback can sting.
At the same time, I will point out what you’re doing well so you can build on your writing craft and storytelling strengths.
I’ll point out where the story needs more attention or writing craft needs to be strengthened. This kind of feedback is priceless really. It's how aspiring authors become professionals. They learn to use feedback to their advantage and become hungry to improve the work through receiving constructive and professional feedback.
I’ll help you learn where your fiction writing blind spots are and I’ll help guide you to build on your writing craft so you know how to fix things for next time.
My goal as a fiction book coach is to help you narrow the gap between where you are now and where you want to be.
You deserve to know where your writing strengths are and where the opportunities for improvement are too.
You deserve to be coached by someone who genuinely believes you can do this.
